Another drabble...
Stupid cold back again. Have been home with fever, runny nose and a cough so bad I threw up from coughing yesterday.
A problem with trying to write is that even though I have ideas, and I compose stuff in my head, I never seem to have the time or energy to actually get it written down. Either I'm at work, or tired after work, or it's Saturday and I'm tired after a whole work week, or it's Sunday and I'm tired from riding. That's why I've never yet posted any long story.
Drabbles are easier.

Surrogate
He's got several canes, all different, but eerily
similar. They all do the same thing for him - while he's using
them he can almost walk like a whole man. They're not what he
really wants, though; they're just a replacement for the leg
he still misses.

he still desires.
He pretends he's not making do.

For some reason the only ones I've managed to actually get finished have been sad ones lately.

I got this idea while trying to sleep one night. For some reason I started wondering why House would have more than one cane - I only have the one, it fits me and I don't see any reason to have more than one. Then I thought, maybe it's that he's trying to find one that he feels completely comfortable with rather than almost-but-not-quite.
For the record, I have a collapsible cane, just as House did in "Needle in a Haystack". Not that I yelled and pointed when I saw it on screen, though. Oh no. That would never do. *cough*

But I love your take on the situation, I mean I dd from the writing, but more so now I know the thoughts behind it.
And I love the icon <3

It might be a sort of companion piece to He always told them (http://jennyaxe.livejournal.com/40924.html?style=mine) which is about Wilson...
I find it hard to put them together in a drabble. Drabbles tend to be about just one person, and for them to actually get together would (for me) require a lot more. So my drabbles so far have just been angsty pre-slash things. But that may change, of course. And there's still the longer stories I've got lying around with little more than the outline finished.
Again, thanks for your comment!
