Another drabble...

Stupid cold back again. Have been home with fever, runny nose and a cough so bad I threw up from coughing yesterday. A problem with trying to write is that even though I have ideas, and I compose stuff in my head, I never seem to have the time or energy to actually get it written down. Either I'm at work, or tired after work, or it's Saturday and I'm tired after a whole work week, or it's Sunday and I'm tired from riding. That's why I've never yet posted any long story. Drabbles are easier.

Surrogate

He's got several canes, all different, but eerily similar. They all do the same thing for him - while he's using them he can almost walk like a whole man. They're not what he really wants, though; they're just a replacement for the leg he still misses.

He's got several hookers, all different, but eerily similar. They all do the same thing for him - while he's using them, he can almost feel like a whole man. They're not what he really wants, though; they're just a replacement for the man he still desires.

He pretends he's not making do.

I absolutely adored this fic, it was tender and plausible... sad though.

Glad you liked it!

For some reason the only ones I've managed to actually get finished have been sad ones lately.

:-(

Do get well soon!

[identity profile] jennyaxe.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I'm getting there - am already much better than I was yesterday.

Yay!

that's good to hear :)

Slam dunk right there.

*chicken soup*

[identity profile] jennyaxe.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks - that means a lot coming from someone who writes as well as you do!

Poor, poor House. Poor, poor Wilson.

Packs a lot of punch for 100 words.

[identity profile] jennyaxe.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I was going to write that compliments are chicken soup for the soul, but that seems a bit over used... but getting positive feedback gives me a happy!

I loved how you said so much with so little. I also likethe use of repetition, that was effective.

[identity profile] jennyaxe.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks a lot! I'm glad you liked the repetition.

I got this idea while trying to sleep one night. For some reason I started wondering why House would have more than one cane - I only have the one, it fits me and I don't see any reason to have more than one. Then I thought, maybe it's that he's trying to find one that he feels completely comfortable with rather than almost-but-not-quite.

For the record, I have a collapsible cane, just as House did in "Needle in a Haystack". Not that I yelled and pointed when I saw it on screen, though. Oh no. That would never do. *cough*

[identity profile] stained-dreams.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
For some people it could be a fashion thing, having more than one, but that clearly isn't House.

But I love your take on the situation, I mean I dd from the writing, but more so now I know the thoughts behind it.

And I love the icon <3

I agree - very effectful. I liked it. (Even though everything I know about the characters comes from your LJ. :-)

Praise from you is praise indeed!

Very nicely done. Write one for Wilson, too ("He has several wives" etc) Then put the boys together!!

[identity profile] rnwannabe.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooops ^^^^^^^^^^^^. That was me. Forgot to sign in :^(
Thanks again.

No problem - glad you liked the story!

It might be a sort of companion piece to He always told them (http://jennyaxe.livejournal.com/40924.html?style=mine) which is about Wilson...

I find it hard to put them together in a drabble. Drabbles tend to be about just one person, and for them to actually get together would (for me) require a lot more. So my drabbles so far have just been angsty pre-slash things. But that may change, of course. And there's still the longer stories I've got lying around with little more than the outline finished.

Again, thanks for your comment!

Wow. It's amazing how much you've said in so few words. Gorgeous! *mems*

[identity profile] jennyaxe.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
This is going to my head, or maybe it's the fever coming back... thanks for your kind words! (whee! I got mem'ed! whee!)

[identity profile] samisaurus.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Yowzer. This packs a hell of a punch for 100 words. Especially the last line.

[identity profile] karaokegal.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Awesome. I'm a sucker for hooker!fic.

[identity profile] jennyaxe.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, here's another compliment from one of my favourite H/W slashers! it's extra nice to get compliments from someone whose writing I admire. In fact, you're the only RPS slasher I read (while feeling slightly voyeurish, true, but still I can't seem to stay away from it...)

[identity profile] myriadborealis.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
Wonderful, the use of repetition is very striking :)

V. nicely done :) Thank you!

Oh . . . this is very nice. You really manage to say a lot with so few words.
