Back in August I put in an order for a new car. They said it'd take nine months to get it delivered (which made me wonder about exactly what the hybrid technology was hybridated from...).

Two weeks ago they called and told me the car would be ready on January 19th. So yesterday I went and signed a number of papers, and I got my car! She's called Molly, and she's beautiful. I don't have any pictures yet, but when I get them, I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] molly_dybedahl will put them up somewhere.

What kind of car is it?

Mine is black (a 2004 Saturn VUE) and it gets dirty very easily, especially in the winter. Were I to do it again, I'd consider white or silver.

It's a Toyota Prius. I chose it mainly because it's the best car on the market for the combination of environmentally friendly and reasonably safe. It got high marks in the crash tests and since it's got a hybrid petrol/electricity engine it uses very little petrol compared to other cars of its size.

And yes, a black car does get dirty. But I couldn't resist the idea of having a black car that's totally silent when driven slowly...

The Prius is very nice! They're kind of hard to get over here; they're very popular. I thought about trying to get one but I was concerned about how the electric part of the engine will handle itself in the coldest parts of winter here in Minnesota.

If it survives in Sweden I'd guess they'd be OK in Minnesota as well. I've got the idea that the weather is reasonably similar - that's why a lot of Swedish emigrants settled there, because they felt at home.

They're kind of hard to get here, too - that's why they originally told me it'd take nine months to get it. I'm very glad I didn't have to wait quite that long!
