There's one thing that really irks me about the new job. The only internet access is via a surf proxy. I miss my XEmacs, dammit!

Still, that will sort itself out once I get an Ibook. There's a wireless LAN for conslutants and suchlike. Since systems on the WLAN aren't allowed to connect to the systems inside the bank firewall, I just need a computer to get on the WLAN to have access to the outside world.

Otherwise, job is still good. I still like the guys I'm sharing a room with, and the other people in the department, and the boss. I get to decide what to use for my project and nobody tries to make me use flavour-of-the-month-useless-content-management-system. I get to make technical recommendations and people listen and mostly agree.

Also, I get toys. When I asked for a mobile phone and a PDA, I got a paper to take to a phone shop. I went out of there with a Treo 650. Boss's comment: "cool phone, glad you like it!". When I asked for books I was told "go to Akademibokhandeln and get what you need, just give them our account number." Which I did. I did show some restraint, though; the shelf here isn't more than half full. But give me time...

Today when I'd been to get a cup of tea (the coffee here is bloody awful, but I've got a tin of Lapsang and one of green tea, so I'm all set up anyweay) and was walking back to my room, I got hailed by some coworkers. They just wanted me to sit and chat a while - I think they're worrying that I'm shy or something and want to make sure I feel welcome to come sit in the coffee room. That's very nice of them! And I got to have a discussion on wicca and other weird things with one of the women in the phone group, which was interesting and fun. I like her a lot.

Less fun is that the stable was burgled last weekend, and several saddles were stolen. The thiefs weren't very knowledgeable; they just took all the stuff that seemed fairly new and left some expensive things that could have brought more money but were scuffed and a bit worn. Skutt's saddle was still there - not very surprising, it's quite old and worn and wouldn't be worth the bother of carrying it out. This was lucky not only for [livejournal.com profile] gnapp and me, but also for the show jumper who had lost his jumping saddle. Skutt's saddle fit his horse very well, so he'll be able to compete on Saturday.

So, what else is new? Well, there's the fact that I generally come home from work and still have some energy left! Yesterday I'd had a night of insomnia, something that at my old job would have meant that I didn't go in at all. Here, I did get to work (although a bit later than usual). I left early to pick up my newly repaired sewing machine and a friend whom I'd promised to help with some sewing. We got home, and I had the energy to help her with the stuff that had been difficult. Only a few months ago, that would have been way beyond me!

So, in all, life is pretty good right now. I've even gotten around to catching up with my Livejournal friends lists. Some of you have been through pretty bad times and I'm sorry I wasn't around to give some support at that time. Others have had a better time and I wish I'd been around to share that as well. I hope that I'll be able to keep in touch with all of you more regularly. Unfortunately, Usenet will have to wait until I get my Ibook - yes, I know Google groups exist, but I can't handle reading news on the web, it's just irritating. The same goes for LysKOM.
