A Day in the Strife
Jan. 20th, 2004 08:25 pmThis morning I took my mother to the airport. We had to leave at 7 am. That wouldn't have been so bad, except that I didn't fall asleep until about half past one am last night...
When I got back home, I got to rest for about half an hour before we had to get to the landlords to get the keys. We also got a parking place, and a moving-in present consisting of a battery-driven milk whisk and two caffe latte cups. Very nice of them. We went through the list of things that needed to be fixed in the flat, got them to note that the floor in the sewing room isn't in the best condition, but forgot to mention that a cupboard is in a bad shape. As we can add items to the list during 8 days after signing for the keys, that's not a big deal, though.
We chose wallpaper for two rooms and floor colour for one. They told us that the kitchen is up for renovation in three years, which is way better than the seven years the previous tenant told us. Unfortunately we can't get it moved up - I'd really like to have those ping walls in some other colour...
We went to Shurgard, bought 20 packing cartons and got a working key for my storage area. I didn't have as much junk as I'd thought, and it's all stuff that can be easily carried, so that part shouldn't be too hard to move.
After a trip to the new flat I got a couple of hours' sleep, which I badly needed. It's not just the being tired that's a problem, it's that the pain is so much worse when I haven't had a full night's rest. I need sufficient sleep to deal with the pain, it seems.
We've now been over with another load of books (it's amazing how many books you can fit into a bookcase if you just pile them instead of putting them in nice rows), and found our storage room and the washing area. The parking space is good; it's not in a locked area but at least it's under a roof, so we won't have to scrape ice of the windows every morning - delight!
Now we've packed another ten crates or so with various stuff (mainly linen, sewing stuff and suchlike) as well as several bags of books. Tomorrow we need to be at the new flat at 9 to receive the people who'll fix the fridge. Hopefully they'll be there early so we don't get late for work. Then it's work the rest of the day, as well as on Thursday. Friday is free so we'll hopefully get the rest of the packing done (I hope I won't be too sore from the Thursday evening riding class), and Saturday is Big Moving Day! The cats are being increasingly skittish, but that's only to be expected. I've brought both transport cages up, and Pixel spends a fair amount of time in one of them - probably to tell me not to leave her behind. I'm looking forward to seeing them in the new flat - there's a staircase! and many rooms! and places to inspect and hide in and jump to and lots of stuff to explore!
Now I think it's bedtime for me. Hopefully being dead tired will help me sleep. One can only hope...
