Unexpected toy shopping
Apr. 28th, 2004 11:08 amA friend put up a for-sale notice on a loom. A real loom, a big one. She asked SEK 1000:- for it (that's about USD 100). For a loom. A real one. One that'd cost at least five times as much new.
This one has never been used, it hasn't even been assembled. I'm going to pick it up in Linköping on Sunday. It's definitely worth driving 2x200 kms for - even with the cost of gas it's still very cheap.
I'm getting a loom! Whee!

Date: 2004-04-29 03:05 pm (UTC)* two woollen blankets/plaids, each 220 x 120 cm
* a rag rug
* a rag tablerunner
* a linen tablecloth, 220 x 130 cm (IIRC)
* a cloth I made into a cover for the fancy office chair I've got by the computer at home
* two thingys that you use for picking up hot plates with and which I'm to lazy to look up the right translation for
* a linen table runner
I'm currently working on two table runners in linen and cotton-linen blend. And I've put up warp for several rugs.
I plan to weave more rugs - probably not the blankets though, since they have to be sent away to be treated to make them fluffy it's easier to do it at the weaving class where we can share the costs and work on ten people. Tablecloths, definitely, also curtains. Possibly material for clothes as well. I still don't know exactly what the loom will be capable of - it depends largely on how many "pedals" it's got; I guess I'll find out on Sunday...
