Sewing festival report

Today the 'Sewing Festival' at Sollentuna opened. It's a three day sewing fair, with all sorts of sewing-related stuff. This year I went with my mother in law. We were at the expo about half an hour after it opened, and the queue was long enough that it took us about a quarter of an hour to get in.

This year, quilting seems to be in vogue. Almost a third of the booths were filled with quilting stuff. The agent for Janome sewing machines had a large booth selling sewing machines and accessories for quilting. There was some embroidery and knitting supplies, but not much - there'll probably be more at the Crafts fair in December. Still, I was mainly after material and some sewing accessories, of which there was plenty.

I did manage to stay within my budget (SEK 800 - approx £60 or $100). That bought me:

• 2 metres blue and 2 metres green "fleece", to make jackets for Calle's nephews
• 5 meters thin black material, for skirt or blouse or dress...
• 2 meters heavy black silk, for a shirt or possibly a jacket
• 2 meters black and 1 meter white Vlieseline interfacing
• 3 meters fusible interfacing for fixing hems
• 3 adjustable bed sheet elastics (which I won't use for bedsheets, but that's what they're called)
• One thingy for picking apart stitches, I don't know what it's called in English, but this one has a larger handle than the ones which came with the sewing machines
• One sew and knit gauge, 6 inches long. which will make it a lot easier to mark button holes

After an hour and a half, Inger (the MiL) and I were knackered. I drove her home and we had coffee and sat talking for quite a while. I like her a lot; she feels like my own family, which is nice as they all live at least 500 kms from Stockholm. Tomorrow my father and his wife will drop in for coffee, though, which is also very nice as we don't meet very often.

And when I was writing this, the person with whom I interviewed for a new job this Monday (and no, I didn't post about it, for fear of jinxing it) called and asked me for a second interview. All in all, this was a very good day indeed
