It would be interesting to see the crime statistics during the football World Cup. Especially the rates of violent crimes compared to the same period during the past few years.,

Apparently the hospitals get very few people suffering from acute problems during the games, at least.

Interestingly, I just finished Henning Mankell's Villospår (in English, duh) which is about some rather brutal murders during the '94 World Cup.
But I should think general stats should go down, yes.

Of course - those fans who stay at home will need to beat someone up when their team loses... sigh

The reason I was wondering is that more than one per cent of all the people in Sweden are currently in Germany watching football. And that's one per cent of the entire population - since the football fans are more likely to be male, it's likely that a larger percentage of the belligerent young men are now out of the country.

But then again, maybe not. I was just wondering.

Surely one percent of the people in Sweden can’t also be in Germany, unless they’ve got very long legs. :-p

I did see that Swedish police, in uniform, are in Germany to help spot known Swedish hooligans, so that‘s one segment of the belligerent ones being shipped back home.
