I'm rereading a Sheri Tepper book, and there's a quote I've found it hard to remember, so I thought I'd post it this time...

There is hope in two women, help in three women, strength in four, joy in five, power in six, and against seven, no gate may stand.

There. I hope I can remember it now...

Eight is too many, and nine is right out.

And I do like that icon.

I haven't really felt at home in groups of women earlier, and I still don't feel comfortable with seeking out or forming "only women" groups. But at least I *have* woman friends now; ten years ago I had almost none, and my close friends all were men.

but is it supposed to say "there is a boy who fears to be gentile"?

Is that from Gibbon's Decline and Fall?

And great icon!

Yes, that's the one I'm rereading now, but the quote was in one of her other books, too. I think it might have been The Gate to Women's Country but I'm not sure.

I don't remember who I snarfed the icon from but I really like it.

It's from The Gate I believe. I have pretty much every Tepper written, so if you feel the need to borrow one you haven't read give me a shout. I read my first Tepper at the instigation of someone else and started with Grass (a truly excellent read). I now have Raising the Stone, Grass, The Awakeners, The Gate to Women's Country, Six Moon Dance, Singer from the Sea, Beauty, Shadow's End, Sideshow, A Plague of Angels and The Family Tree.

She infuriates me so much with her feminist/anti-men shoulder chip, but she writes a damned good book.
