Six degrees of LJ

Do you remember the old SixDegrees website? The one where you'd enter your name, and the names of people you know, and they'd add the people they know, and so on.
Today I started following the "friends" links of the people who commented on my first LJ post. It took way less than six jumps to find people I hadn't heard from in years. In some cases, people I've cared deeply for, and been sorry when our lives changed in ways that made us drift apart. And now I can see at least the part of their lives that they're willing to share with the world.
I used to wonder in what ways LJ could possibly be better than Usenet. Now I've found the first one.

Date: 2003-10-27 02:25 pm (UTC)It has been a while, hasn't it? I'm currently on a bit of a hiatus from Usenet, due to not having the available time to plough through the sheer volume of it, along with mailing lists, uni, work and doing creative writing. Somehow I still find time for LJ. *grin*
So, how's things?

Date: 2003-10-28 03:38 am (UTC)Things are OKish. I'm still at my old job, though the company has changed a lot during the past few years, and I'm currently working with webservers instead of mailservers. I'm still the one who answers all the others' questions about mail, though. I've still got endometriosis, I got married last year, I've got three cats and two sewing machines. I've taken up weaving and horseriding - the latter plays merry hell with the endometriosis and adhesions, but it's worth it! I shouldn't complain really - the pain is bad sometimes, but the medications mostly work and they're affordable in this country. I had a burnout episode last winter, but I'm mostly OK now - that's why I switched to working with webservers instead.
How's things with you?

Date: 2003-11-04 10:35 pm (UTC)Maybe it is time I made an LJ of my own. But then, am I ready for LJ? Is LJ ready for me? I don't know, and it's a scary prospect to 'rejoin' the online community. Maybe one day I'll get the courage to do it.
I'm pleased to read that you are married Jenny, congratulations to you both :)

Date: 2003-11-07 02:09 am (UTC)Hi Tap,
Very nice to hear from you! I mentioned you just last night, when a friend asked me how I came to be a wiccan... I might post more about that story; for now, suffice it to say that I am and have been for the past three years or so.
I've been married since June last year; there's some pictures from the wedding at Calle's website (http://www.cyberpomo.com/wedding/).
I've still got the same job, still got three cats, still got the endometriosis. I've added a touch of burnout and some hobbies. Otherwise it's much the same as last time we heard from eachother...
